Four days is a useful length for seeing four different parts of Braj: Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan, then Barsana and Nandgaon. This plan assumes arrival on day 1 morning, departure after day 4, and three nights in Mathura. If your departure is early on day 4, add a fourth night or drop Nandgaon.
Temple access and darshan hours can change by season or special event. Check locally each evening for the next day and keep an afternoon break where possible.
Day 1: Mathura
Begin at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, revered as Lord Krishna's birthplace; the Keshav Dev temple is in the complex. Phones, bags and electronics are generally not allowed inside, so check the rules at the gate and use the nearby locker or cloak facility if required.
Later visit Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat, both about 2 km from Janmabhoomi and 10 to 15 minutes by auto or e-rickshaw. Vishram Ghat is known for its evening Yamuna aarti. Confirm the current time locally rather than planning around a fixed online timetable.
Day 2: Vrindavan
Go first to Banke Bihari Temple in the old-town lanes. From Janmabhoomi it is about 10 km and normally 30 to 40 minutes by road. The temple says hours vary by season and special events; check its official guidance.
Use the middle of the day for lunch and rest. Then visit ISKCON (Krishna Balaram Mandir) and finish at Prem Mandir for the evening lighting. Both are about 9 km from Janmabhoomi, normally 25 to 35 minutes. Check the official Prem Mandir timetable for seasonal hours.
Day 3: Govardhan gets its own day
Govardhan is about 22 km from Janmabhoomi, around 45 minutes by road. The complete walking parikrama is about 21 km and Radha Kund is on the route. If you intend to walk it, protect this entire day: your pace, rest stops and weather determine the finish time. Do not pack Barsana or Nandgaon into the same day.
Visitors who are not walking the full route can make a shorter Govardhan visit, but should still agree the exact stops and return plan before starting. The Govardhan Parikrama guide has a practical preparation list.
Day 4: Barsana and Nandgaon
Barsana is about 42 km from Janmabhoomi, around 1 hour 15 minutes by road. Shri Radha Rani, or Ladli Ji, temple stands on the hill. Nandgaon, associated with Nand Baba, is about 54 km from Janmabhoomi and around 1 hour 30 minutes by road. Together they form a distinct north-west Braj day.
Start with the place most important to your group and confirm current temple access locally. Hills, steps and road time make a slower pace sensible for elders. See the Barsana and Nandgaon day-trip guide before deciding whether both fit your departure day.
Keep one Mathura base
This plan requires three Mathura nights. Check out by 10 AM on day 4 and confirm the luggage plan directly before leaving for Barsana and Nandgaon; luggage storage is not assumed. Shri Govind Braj Dham is a 5 minute walk from Janmabhoomi. Rooms start from ₹799 a night plus taxes, with exact rates varying by dates and festivals. Transport may be arranged on request; its availability, route, vehicle, inclusions and price are confirmed and quoted separately.
