Two days is the classic Mathura Vrindavan trip: keep one complete day for Mathura and one for Vrindavan. This plan assumes arrival on day 1 morning, one night in Mathura, and departure after the Vrindavan evening on day 2. If you arrive the previous evening or leave the following morning, book the additional night rather than cutting temple time.
Darshan and aarti hours change by season and special events. Check current notices before travel and use the order below as a route, not a fixed timetable.
Day 1: Mathura
Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi
Begin at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, revered as Lord Krishna's birthplace. The Keshav Dev temple is within the complex. Mobile phones, bags and electronics are generally not allowed inside; leave them at your room when practical or use the locker or cloak facility near the entrance. Check the current rules at the gate.
Allow time for security and darshan. Our Krishna Janmabhoomi guide covers the practical preparation.
Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat
Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat are each about 2 km from Janmabhoomi, normally 10 to 15 minutes by auto or e-rickshaw. The old-city lanes can add walking, so carry little. Shared autos and e-rickshaws are common; agree the fare before you start.
Use the afternoon for lunch and rest because temple access can pause during the day. Return to Vishram Ghat for the evening Yamuna aarti, for which it is known. Confirm the current temple and aarti times locally.
The Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat guide explains how to keep this old-city section together.
Day 2: Vrindavan
Banke Bihari and old Vrindavan
Banke Bihari Temple is about 10 km from Janmabhoomi and normally 30 to 40 minutes by road. Start here and allow extra time for the narrow lanes. Official guidance says darshan hours vary by summer, winter and special events, so check the temple website before leaving.
If the group is moving comfortably, choose either Nidhivan or Radha Raman nearby. Both are optional; keeping one out is better than rushing the rest of the day. Read the Banke Bihari darshan guide for the lanes and current-hours check.
ISKCON and Prem Mandir
After lunch and a break, move toward ISKCON (Krishna Balaram Mandir), then Prem Mandir. Both are about 9 km from Janmabhoomi, normally 25 to 35 minutes by road. Prem Mandir is known for evening lighting, so keep it for the last visit. Its official site publishes seasonal darshan and fountain hours; check local notices as well.
Use the Prem Mandir guide to plan the last stop without treating the published fountain slot as the whole lighting period.
After Prem Mandir, return to Mathura for your train or another night. For transport choices between the cities, read how to go from Mathura to Vrindavan.
Room and transport planning
This route requires one Mathura night. Check out by 10 AM on day 2 and confirm the day's luggage plan directly before leaving for Vrindavan; luggage storage is not assumed. Shri Govind Braj Dham is a 5 minute walk from Janmabhoomi; rooms start from ₹799 a night plus taxes, with exact rates varying by dates and festivals. Transport may be arranged on request, but availability, route, vehicle, inclusions and price are confirmed separately.
If you have a third day, use the 3 day itinerary to choose between Govardhan and Gokul instead of squeezing either into this plan.
