Most visitors come to Mathura for one reason: darshan at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi, often followed by a day in Vrindavan. Where you sleep decides how easy that is.
Why stay within walking distance
The area around Janmabhoomi gets busy, especially on weekends and festivals like Janmashtami and Holi. If you stay within walking distance you can:
- reach the temple for the early aarti without waiting for an auto,
- go back to your room to rest in the afternoon heat,
- skip parking near the temple, which fills up quickly.
Shri Govind Braj Dham is on Shankar Road near Gate 3, just a 5 minute walk from Janmabhoomi.
What to look for in a budget room
A cheap room is only good value if it is clean. Before you book anywhere, check:
- Recent photos of the bathroom, not just the bedroom.
- AC and power backup if you visit between April and September.
- Check-in hours. Many trains reach Mathura late at night, so 24 hour check-in helps.
- Parking, if you are driving from Delhi or Agra.
